Walleye Fishing
Walleye fishing can be very exciting and fun if you plan your trip right. You’ll need to know the basics if you’re not an experienced fishermen to make the most out of your fishing time.
One of the first things to consider when fishing for the fun to catch and very tasty walleye is where to go and what presentation to use. While you sometimes find them in rivers and streams, they prefer deep lakes with stained or murky water. You can fish for them Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. You’ll have to use different tactics depending on the time of year. In the Spring you’ll most likely find walleye in shallow to moderate depth water where they go to spawn. In the Summer, start shallow in the a.m. but try deeper as the day progresses but get back to the shallows for the evening. In the Fall, you’ll likely find walleye in shallow to moderate depth along points and submerged structure. Winter means slowing down your fishing to make it easier for the walleye to catch the bait.
There are many kinds of lures to choose from and each fisherman has his own favorites. Some lures you should make it a point to have are crankbaits, plastic worms and jigs. Don’t be afraid to try something new because you never know what may trigger a walleye to hit. Maybe throwing a small silver spoon will produce the next walleye world record and it could be you who catches it!
